A week in the life: Sophie’s last minute lodge break at Billing Aquadrome Holiday Park
As the summer season draws to a close at Billing Aquadrome Holiday Park, we started to catch up with a few of our 2024 holidaymakers to hear about their stay. Read on to hear about what Sophie and her family got up to during their 4-night last minute lodge break back in August.
Arriving at Billing Aquadrome
It’s safe to say that the British summertime weather hasn’t been fully on our side this year, but Sophie lucked out during her stay during the mini-heatwave we all seemed to get.
“We were heading up to Northampton from the South Coast, so our journey took just over 2 hours. We arrived at around 2pm and were met by the receptionist who showed us where our lodge was.
We opted for the 3 bedroom silver caravan, which was perfect for what we needed; plenty big enough and very clean and tidy. After exploring the park by foot, we picked up dinner on the way and checked out the schedule of activities for the week.”
Tuesday: Let the games begin!
“After picking up some essentials from the local on-park supermarket, we enjoyed our first morning in the lodge with a full English breakfast. With the kids being aged 9 and 6, they were excited for a week of activities so we started the holiday with a round of golf whilst the sun was shining.
The Himalayan Adventure Golf was great fun, with my son Woody taking the win for the family (much to Harriet’s disappointment!).
After lunch, Harriet and Woody took part in a fire lighting activity. This involved using real tools to create sparks and fire and investigating flammable substances (of course watched closely by the ranger!). We then hired some canoes on the lake which was a great experience and made even better after spotting plenty of wildlife.
Once back at the lodge, we got ready for dinner and the evening entertainment at the Amphitheatre, which was Twist of Rock.”
Wednesday: Crazy fun on the lake!
“One of the first things the kids decided they wanted to do whilst on holiday was the aqua park assault course. We all got kitted up with wetsuits and headed into our 60-minute session with excitement (and some trepidation on my part!). This was definitely one of the highlights of our stay, with a full hour of action-packed slipping, sliding and belly-laughing until lunchtime.
Once we’d dried off, we headed to The Boathouse and it’s safe to say we deserved our fish and chips lunch. The restaurant area has great views overlooking one of the 12 lakes on-park and the food was quick and tasty!
Woody spent the afternoon at the new BMX Pump Track, which kept him occupied for a couple of hours whilst Harriet and I headed to the outdoor pool and splash park, giving me a few moments to pick up my holiday book. The weather made it feel like I was on an all-inclusive holiday abroad. Idyllic!
After some fun at the on-park arcade spending our two pence coins and catching teddies, we spent the evening at our lodge. We ordered a ‘smores kit’ from The Venue, which we thoroughly enjoyed. It included a mini fondue kit, marshmallows, chocolate, and biscuits. The perfect night in!”
Thursday: Time to explore…
“We decided to head out of the park and explore the local area as we hadn’t visited much of Northamptonshire before. The on-park staff were very helpful in recommending some nearby attractions, so we grabbed a picnic and drove 15 minutes away to Castle Asby Gardens. It was a great way to spend a few hours, playing hide and seek, exploring the gardens and spotting the meerkats at the Menagerie.
Once we returned to Billing Aquadrome we hired the pedal Dino carts; we had a great time racing around and competing against each other before heading to The Venue for dinner. The evening’s entertainment was great fun and got everyone up dancing; Billing Beatz got everyone in the weekend mood – the saxophonist was a particular favourite!”
Friday: Home time!
“We certainly packed in a lot during our time at Billing Aquadrome, but there was even more we could have enjoyed as a family, so we will be back! Before locking up the lodge, we fitted in a last-minute swim in the indoor pool. Our checkout was smooth and we were on the road by 11am.”
